Food Hygiene Rating Scheme AI model (alpha pilot)

FSA piloted a model to predict hygiene ratings for unrated food businesses, then retired it

StoppedCompany's own claim

Problem

Local authorities must decide which new food businesses to inspect first when they are waiting for a first inspection.

Approach

A LightGBM model predicted a 0 to 5 hygiene rating and compliance for establishments awaiting first inspection, to help councils prioritise. The alpha pilot started at the beginning of April 2022. FSA planned to measure time savings but reported no results.

No figures published

Takeaway

FSA retired the inspection-prioritisation model after an alpha pilot. It did not disclose the results or its reason for stopping.
