Advanced analytics triage of overseas temporary resident visa applications

IRCC says analytics helped process over 1 million visa applications since 2018; routine eligibility assessments can be 87% faster.

Problem

IRCC receives large numbers of visa applications from abroad, and most are straightforward but still take officer time.

Approach

Since 2018 an analytics model has flagged routine applications, such as from people approved to visit within the past 10 years, for streamlined processing. It also sorts harder files for officers by complexity. In January 2022 IRCC said it covers all temporary resident visa applications from outside Canada.

Takeaway

IRCC says the system never refuses an application and that only an officer can.
