BC Hydro

Bit Stew machine learning for smart-grid operational triage

BC Hydro used machine learning to triage smart-grid data generating approximately 237 million values daily

WorkingVendor case study

Problem

Smart meters greatly increased the volume of operational data BC Hydro had to interpret. Information spread across separate systems made it harder to identify problems quickly.

Approach

BC Hydro implemented Bit Stew's MIx Core and MIx Director Suite. The software combined operational data and applied machine learning to detect patterns and anomalies. Operators used a shared dashboard to prioritise alerts and assess outages.

Results

approximately 237 milliondaily data values generated after smart-meter deployment, describing workload rather than an AI performance gainVendor case study[1]

Takeaway

The deployment supported operational triage, but no controlled measurement of faster outage restoration was disclosed.
