Fiberon (Fortune Brands Innovations)
Augury AI machine-health monitoring at the New London decking plant
Fiberon's Augury pilot avoided 178 hours of downtime on 40 machines and led to a 16-site rollout
Problem
Unplanned failures on extrusion equipment at the Fiberon decking plant in New London, North Carolina, caused long line stoppages. Reheating a line after a failure alone took hours.
Approach
From December 2023 Fiberon ran an eight-month pilot of Augury's Machine Health platform on 40 machines. Sensors capture vibration, temperature and magnetic data, and AI diagnostics and Augury reliability experts review the alerts. Six active users worked as a team. After the pilot, Fortune Brands began a 12-month rollout in October 2024 to more than 1,000 machines at 16 sites in the US, UK and Mexico.
Results
Takeaway
A single early catch, a gearbox repaired during a planned shutdown, helped the plant build trust in the alerts before the wider rollout.
