Sushiro AI sales forecasting for promotional procurement

Sushiro's AI-based promotion forecasts preceded shortages and an advertising enforcement order

StoppedCompany's own claimOfficial ↗

Problem

Sushiro had to procure enough ingredients for advertised promotions. Sales planning relied on historical sales and experienced staff adjustments.

Approach

Sushiro used a trial AI system to forecast promotional sales from identical or similar products. Demand exceeded procurement even after staff increased some estimates. Shortages and inadequate advertising changes led to a June 2022 Consumer Affairs Agency order.

Takeaway

Forecasts did not account for television advertising's demand effect. The investigation identified both forecasting weaknesses and failures to correct advertising when availability changed.
