LLM-driven NPC opponents in the game Supernatural Action Group
Giant Network's horror game passed 25 million matches with AI-driven NPCs in the first week
Problem
Giant Network wanted new play in its multiplayer horror game Supernatural Action Group. Scripted NPCs behave predictably, so the studio looked for opponents that act more like real players.
Approach
The studio added an AI Large Model Challenge mode and opened it to all players. In-game NPC decoys run on large language models in real time. They talk by voice, imitate human players' voices and behavior, and ambush players. Alibaba Cloud, Volcano Engine and Tencent Cloud supplied model adaptation, real-time inference and stability under heavy concurrent load.

Takeaway
A live game can use language models as opponents only if inference holds up under peak player load, which is why the studio used three cloud providers.
