Problem

Killam ran a portfolio of about 17,000 apartment units and had set emissions-reduction goals. Heating was a large energy cost in its older buildings.

Approach

Killam installed Ecopilot, an AI system that controls heating in real time, at Quinpool Tower, an 11-storey, 233-unit building in Halifax. The system uses the building's thermal properties, the weather and indoor temperature. Killam said it chose the product partly because of a guaranteed minimum saving and a three-year payback.

Results

9%guaranteed minimum HVAC energy savings, a vendor guarantee and not a measured resultVendor case study[1]

Takeaway

The savings figure was a contract guarantee at the time of the article. Measured results from the building were not yet reported.
