Problem

The alliance represents about 400,000 members in a workforce of roughly 2.2 million nannies, house cleaners and home care workers. Most work alone and have to negotiate pay without help.

Approach

The alliance surveyed about 1,000 workers before building Ask Aya on Claude, using Claude for Nonprofits. The tool gives guidance in English or Spanish at any hour and routes questions across Claude Opus, Sonnet and Haiku. It avoids legal advice and sensitive immigration questions and refers those to attorneys, local affiliates or the alliance's worker experience team. Use is opt-in, and the alliance runs it under a zero-data-retention agreement with Anthropic. It launched in March 2026 and had about 2,200 users at the time of the story.

Takeaway

Nearly half of the beta testers began skeptical of AI, and the alliance built the tool around opt-in use and human hand-offs for high-stakes questions.
