Portland General Electric
Pano AI camera network for wildfire detection
Portland General Electric's AI cameras spotted a fire 140 minutes before 911 calls and satellites
Problem
Wildfire risk in PGE's service area was rising, and the utility needed to see ignitions in high-risk zones faster than 911 calls or satellite alerts allowed.
Approach
PGE installed 26 Pano AI cameras covering high-risk fire zones, as part of a multiyear wildfire plan that also includes grid hardening and early fault detection. Nearly 40 land management and fire agencies in Oregon receive the camera data.

Takeaway
PGE shared the camera feed with outside fire agencies, so the earlier warning reached the people who fight the fire.
