SBS Transit
Stratio early-warning system for bus faults
SBS Transit's bus fault early-warning pilot cut breakdowns by at least 20%, per supplier Stratio
Problem
Bus breakdowns hurt service reliability for SBS Transit, part of ComfortDelGro. Technicians wanted to find faults before they stopped a bus.
Approach
SBS Transit used Stratio's AI and machine learning condition-monitoring system, which tracks more than 200 vehicle parameters such as brakes, electrical systems and fluid levels and warns technicians early. A pilot started on 1,000 buses in April 2022. In March 2024 the companies agreed to extend it to more than 3,000 SBS Transit buses, with air-conditioning fault prediction and battery monitoring on electric buses added.
Results
Takeaway
The breakdown figure comes from the supplier and covers the 1,000-bus pilot. The fleet-wide rollout was still planned at the time of reporting.
