AI deep-learning image reconstruction on MRI scanners

Spire cut some MRI scans from 30 to 15 minutes after adding AI image reconstruction at 21 hospitals

WorkingCompany's own claimOfficial ↗

Problem

Patients waited for MRI slots, and long scans limited how many people each scanner could see.

Approach

Spire added AI-enabled MRI technology from Siemens (Deep Resolve), Philips (SmartSpeed) and GE, which use deep-learning models to reduce image noise, sharpen images and speed up scanning. It rolled this out at 21 hospitals in 2025. Radiographers still make the clinical decisions on safety, protocols, positioning and contrast.

Results

around 30 to 15 minutesknee orthopaedic MRI scan time, per SpireCompany's own claim[1]
1.9 to 2.3 per hourscan rate, per SpireCompany's own claim[1]
3.5 daysaverage patient wait time, per SpireCompany's own claim[1]

Takeaway

Faster reconstruction software on existing scanner lines added capacity without changing who makes clinical decisions.
