Ternium
Computer vision for distancing and mask compliance
Ternium activated 170 cameras to detect distancing and mask violations
Problem
Ternium needed to monitor COVID-19 precautions across industrial sites. Supervisors needed information they could act on quickly.
Approach
Its developers adapted existing industrial-safety video analytics to detect distances between people and mask use. Deployment began in Argentina and expanded to Mexico and Brazil. Detected violations generated photographs in the occupational-safety management system for supervisors to review.
Results
Takeaway
Ternium reused existing safety-camera capabilities for a new monitoring task. It did not report an effect on infection rates.
