AI real-time optimisation of cement production lines

Titan said real-time optimisation algorithms lifted cement plant productivity by up to 10%

WorkingCompany's own claim

Problem

Cement production lines generate data from thousands of sensors, but running a whole line at its best by hand is hard.

Approach

Titan began using standalone optimisation algorithms in 2017 at its Pennsuco plant in the United States. The algorithms optimise the whole production line in real time. By 2021 the method was applied in plants in the USA, Greece, Brazil and Southeastern Europe. The group also built AI forecasting tools for cement production on its big data infrastructure.

Results

up to 10%productivity improvement, as stated by the group in 2021Company's own claim[1]

Takeaway

Titan tested the optimisers in one US plant first and spread them to other regions over four years.
