UVeye AI vehicle inspection at used-car auction sites
USS used UVeye 3D scans and AI image analysis to inspect cars at its Nagoya and Tokyo auction sites
Problem
Remote online bidders at used-car auctions could not see a vehicle's condition in person, and inspectors had to find defects by eye.
Approach
Toyota Tsusho and its subsidiary Toyotsu Automotive Creation brought in UVeye, an Israeli system that builds 3D images of a car's undercarriage, body and wheels and uses AI image analysis to flag anomalies. It was introduced at USS Nagoya in October 2020 and at USS Tokyo in February 2021, where a tire-tread photo function was added. Online bidders can view the high-resolution images. The partners planned to add other sites.

Takeaway
Inspection images gave remote bidders a view of the car that did not require attending the auction.
