Felixstowe's initial autonomous Q-Trucks exceeded 660 days of routine operation, Westwell reported

WorkingVendor case studyVendor ↗

Problem

Container transport had to continue through night shifts and poor visibility. Autonomous vehicles also had to navigate alongside manually driven equipment.

Approach

Westwell deployed autonomous Q-Trucks at Felixstowe from 2023. Its system combined transformer-based stereo vision with occupancy sensing to interpret obstacles and nearby traffic. Fleet dispatch and battery swapping supported continued operation.

Results

exceeding 660days of routine operation for the initial vehicles, according to WestwellVendor case study[1]

Takeaway

The deployment paired autonomous driving with energy replenishment. The operating-duration claim did not establish a measured productivity gain.
