Hospital Authority (Tuen Mun Hospital)

Problem

Physiotherapists at the outpatient department built reports by piecing together scattered clinical notes, which took time away from patients. Across public hospitals, medical report requests also faced long waits.

Approach

The Hospital Authority built a generative AI platform in-house. In February 2025 its chief executive announced trials of AI-drafted medical reports at six hospitals from March 2025, with doctors checking every report. The Tuen Mun physiotherapy team wrote its own prompt on the platform at no extra cost. In January 2026 ten physiotherapists were split into two groups of five, one working by hand and one with AI drafts, on the same case.

Results

Takeaway

AI drafts shortened report writing in a department trial with five staff per group. The authority aims to finish 80% of report requests within eight weeks, but has not published results from its six-hospital trial.
