IKEA Kreativ AI-assisted room visualization

IKEA launched an AI room designer that let shoppers remove existing furniture and try replacements

Problem

Customers needed to judge how furniture would fit and look in their homes before buying. Online product browsing did not provide an editable view of their own rooms.

Approach

Ingka launched IKEA Kreativ using technology developed by its subsidiary Geomagical Labs. Neural networks recognized indoor objects and room geometry from photographs. Customers could erase existing furniture and place IKEA products in the reconstructed space.

Takeaway

The service connected room visualization with product selection and shopping carts. Ingka did not disclose a measured sales effect in its launch announcement.
