KION Group

Generative AI that builds customer-specific warehouse management systems

KION uses generative AI to build, test and document warehouse management systems from a warehouse description

Problem

Every warehouse differs in layout, storage conditions and special processes. A warehouse management system (WMS) has to be adapted to each customer, and that work takes developers a long time.

Approach

KION's software team feeds a recorded description of a customer's warehouse into generative AI. The AI produces a tailored WMS, tests it and writes the documentation. KION chose to standardise the adaptation process, not the product.

Results

three times as much time savedtime saved with generative AI across planning, implementation and operation, per KION; the baseline was not namedCompany's own claim[1]

Takeaway

When every customer site is different, AI can speed up the adaptation work instead of forcing one standard product on everyone.

KION's story describes generative AI that turns a warehouse description into a tailored WMS, then tests it and writes its documentation. A KION software director says the AI does in seconds what developers need days for and saves about three times as much time. No baseline or customer results are given.
