Lumen Technologies
AI in network consolidation and a data agent across 500+ systems
Lumen said AI cut an equipment consolidation step from about two days to 15 minutes
Problem
After more than a dozen acquisitions, Lumen ran more than 22 inventory systems and hundreds of disconnected data sources. Planning a single equipment consolidation for a customer meant checking 17 systems and took about two days.
Approach
Lumen built a semantic layer across its data, then deployed an AI agent over more than 500 data systems, tools and applications so staff could query them in one prompt. AI also helped rebuild data models for merged inventory systems. An AI-powered workflow now handles consolidation planning. The Lumen Transformation Office tracks results with standard business-case templates and KPIs set at the start of each project.

Takeaway
Lumen set KPIs at the start of each AI project, which let it add up savings across many uses.
