Makalot Industrial
AI-assisted garment design proposals
Makalot cut parts of its design proposal work from 10 days to 2 and said faster individuals did not mean a faster company
Problem
A proposal of 10 to 15 garment designs took about 10 working days and passed through at least five departments. The steps were trend research, sketches, paper patterns and virtual or physical sampling.
Approach
Makalot used AI in these design steps. A Makalot director described the results at an APEC AI design seminar in Taipei in September 2026. The company has since been consolidating data from factories, customers and specifications, connecting data flows through APIs and feeding industry knowledge into its AI.

Takeaway
Makalot said speeding up single tasks did not by itself speed up the whole company. Designers could generate attractive garments that could not be made, sales staff could present polished data that rested on AI hallucinations, and tools adopted by factories did not always exchange data with headquarters systems.

Source summaries
Reports a Makalot director's talk at an APEC AI design seminar in Taipei. A 10 to 15 design proposal took about 10 working days across at least five departments, and with AI some steps took 2 days and 1 designer. The talk also named new bottlenecks: unmakeable designs, AI-hallucinated data and unconnected factory systems.
