Safe Call: AI warning of phone fraud during a live call
MTS said more than half of subscribers hung up after its AI fraud warning during a call
Problem
Subscribers in Russia were losing money to phone scammers, who most often posed as mobile operator staff.
Approach
MTS tested Safe Call in Moscow from May 2024 and launched it in October 2024 in all its regions. The AI analyzes a call for signs of fraud and plays a voice warning that only the person answering hears. The service is switched on in the My MTS app and costs 199 rubles a month after a 7-day free trial.

Takeaway
The hang-up share is a claim by the head of MWS AI, part of MTS Web Services, and Kommersant did not verify it. MTS gave no exact detection rate.
