Problem

Specialist nurses manually searched CT and ultrasound reports for clots that developed after admission. This work delayed identification and consumed nursing time.

Approach

The thrombosis team worked with Solventum and the trust's digital team on automated report screening. From August 2024, the software produced daily lists of newly identified clots and a dashboard for follow-up.

Results

56%reduction in avoidable clots in at-risk inpatients over six months, reported by the trustCompany's own claim[1]
2 hours a dayaverage specialist nursing time saved, reported by the trustCompany's own claim[1]

Takeaway

Automated screening gave nurses more time for patient care. The trust did not provide a comparison design establishing how much of the reduction was attributable to AI.
