Problem

Outlining organs at risk took substantial staff time during radiotherapy planning. This work contributed to the interval between CT scanning and completed treatment plans.

Approach

The trust introduced MVision's cloud-based deep-learning contouring system in 2022. Staff reviewed and edited its contours before clinical use. A prospective audit tracked clinical acceptability and planning-pathway times.

Results

5.5working-day reduction in median breast planning transit time after one year, in the trust's auditCompany's own claim[1]
9working-day reduction in median prostate planning transit time after one year, in the trust's auditCompany's own claim[1]

Takeaway

The pathway reductions appeared a year after introduction. Improvements were not statistically significant for every cancer pathway.
