ROHM
Smartphone AI meter reading for factory inspections
ROHM replaced handwritten meter-inspection records with hakaru.ai
Problem
Factory meter inspections involved handwritten records and physically awkward reading positions. ROHM wanted to reduce manual work while ensuring that inspectors visited every meter.
Approach
ROHM tested hakaru.ai and supplied factory feedback during development. It formally switched inspection work to the service in May 2019. Staff photographed meters with smartphones, and the system digitized readings for electronic records and review.

Takeaway
Requiring a photograph for each record helped confirm that inspectors visited the meters. ROHM reported easier inspection work without publishing a numerical time saving.
