SM Supermalls
Document AI portal for tenants' tax certificate forms
SM Supermalls cut tax form processing time by 67% after Document AI began reading tenants' submissions
Problem
Mall tenants submit a withholding tax certificate, Form 2307, every quarter, about 30,000 forms in all. The old portal was manual. Tenants printed and signed forms and couriered them in, and accounting staff sorted and typed in many of them.
Approach
SM Supermalls hired the Philippine AI firm Senti AI to build a new portal on Google Cloud that uses Document AI to read data from the forms. Four SM staff worked with four Senti AI specialists. Work began in January 2022, trials ran alongside, and the portal launched in July 2022. Accounting staff now check the extracted data instead of encoding each form.
Results
Takeaway
Reading accuracy of just over 80% was enough to change the work, because staff moved from typing forms to checking them.
