Zerodha
Automated PAN card checks in account opening
Zerodha removed 80% of manual work in account opening with Vision AI card checks
Problem
Zerodha received around 25,000 account applications a day, and each one went through a Know-Your-Customer check. Support agents checked identity documents such as PAN cards by hand.
Approach
Zerodha deployed Google's Vision AI in April 2020. It reads scanned PAN cards with optical character recognition, extracts the name and number and compares them with the application form. A mismatch triggers an alert, and the user must send the correct document.

Takeaway
A narrow document check removed most agent handling in an onboarding flow with high daily volume.
