BBVA
ChatGPT Enterprise rollout to all staff
BBVA agreed to extend ChatGPT Enterprise to all 120,000 staff after early users reported saving about three hours a week
Problem
Banks wanted staff to use generative AI on routine writing, analysis and search tasks under security and privacy controls. BBVA wanted to see real use before committing across its 25 markets.
Approach
In May 2024 the Spanish bank gave 3,300 employees ChatGPT Enterprise accounts, becoming the first European bank to partner with OpenAI, and later expanded access to 11,000 employees, who built thousands of custom GPTs. In December 2025 it agreed to extend the tool to all 120,000 employees, a tenfold increase, with training programmes, a dedicated team working with OpenAI and tools for building internal agents connected to BBVA systems. In 2025 it also rolled out Google Workspace with Gemini to around 100,000 staff.
Results
Takeaway
BBVA based its tenfold expansion on earlier users' usage rates and self-reported time savings, without a measured financial result. It ran two vendors' assistants side by side.
