Osaka International Cancer Institute
Generative AI for patient intake and nursing voice input
Osaka International Cancer Institute put patient-intake and nursing voice AI into operation
Problem
Clinicians spent consultation time collecting symptoms, while initial patient questionnaires still used paper. Some patients had difficulty typing because of treatment side effects.
Approach
The institute developed the systems with Japan's National Institutes of Biomedical Innovation, Health and Nutrition and IBM Japan. Both entered operation in September 2025. The intake assistant gathered symptoms through a conversational avatar with voice input, and clinicians could view the information at electronic health-record terminals.
Results
Takeaway
The systems entered clinical use before measured time savings were disclosed. The interview-time reduction remained a target.
