Rengo
In-house AI for cargo staging and truck guidance at the Yashio Distribution Center
Rengo used its own AI to plan cargo staging and guide trucks at its Yashio paperboard distribution center
Problem
Operators at the Yashio Distribution Center planned where to stage products for loading by hand. Results varied by person, and forklift crossings were a safety concern.
Approach
Rengo Logistics, which runs the center in Yashio, Saitama, began operating a new system in January 2019. An in-house AI plans staging positions for products, taking forklift crossings into account. The system also guides trucks from entry to loading. The center, opened in 2015, handles products from the Yashio paperboard mill and holds up to 25,000 tonnes.

Takeaway
Rengo said the system cut loading time and driver waiting time. It did not publish figures.
