SAIFOMW AI system for warehouse labor planning and staff assignment
SENKO put an AI system in three warehouses to do the work of floor supervisors, with a pilot showing 14% labor-reduction potential
Problem
Warehouse floor supervisors set shifts, forecast man-hours and reassigned workers by hand. The work depended on veterans and left workers waiting between tasks.
Approach
SENKO built SAIFOMW (Senko AI FOreMan and Woman) with the data-science firm JDSC. It takes order data and production plans, calculates the headcount each task needs and connects to the warehouse management and attendance systems. Testing began in January 2022 at the Inzai Logistics Center, and the system went into operation on 1 July 2024 at three sites with more than 400 staff in total.
Results
Takeaway
The 14% figure comes from the pilot and is an estimate of what could be saved by cutting waiting time. The article reports no measured result from the three live sites.
