University of Sydney
Cogniti course-specific learning agents
More than 800 University of Sydney educators used Cogniti to provide course-specific AI support
Problem
Educators could not provide individual help whenever students needed it. The university wanted AI support that teachers could direct using their own subject material.
Approach
Professor Danny Liu developed Cogniti within the university's Educational Innovation team. Teachers created customised agents using instructions and course information. Engineering students used agents for quizzes and explanations, while speech pathology students practised conversations with a simulated parent. Cogniti subsequently became available on Microsoft Marketplace.
Results
Takeaway
Teachers controlled each agent's subject material and behaviour. The reported educator count established uptake, while learning benefits were described through individual teaching examples.
