Dasa
Prescription-reading OCR for test and appointment scheduling in the Nav app
Dasa's patients booked tests more often after the Nav app began reading prescriptions with OCR
Problem
Patients of Brazil's largest integrated health network had to type in the name of each test on a prescription when booking through the app. Scheduling by phone also loaded the call center.
Approach
Dasa built its own optical character recognition system on Google Cloud, using Vision AI and Vertex AI. It runs in Nav, Dasa's digital health platform, and reads digital and handwritten prescriptions. A patient photographs the prescription and then picks the time and place for the test. Document AI also reads health insurance cards to help validate plan details.

Takeaway
Reading the prescription from a photo removed a manual step from booking and moved some scheduling out of the call center. Dasa compared bookings made with the OCR and bookings made without it.

Source summaries
Google Cloud's customer story describes how Dasa built an OCR system on Google Cloud to read patient prescriptions in its Nav app. It reports more than 700,000 prescriptions read since deployment and a 10% higher conversion rate for scheduling with OCR than without it. It says the tool reduced calls to the call center for test and appointment scheduling but gives no figure for that. The page carries no date; the Internet Archive first saved it on April 8, 2026.
