In-house AI language-model playlists and natural-language search on the FLO music service

Dreamus moved FLO's Moood playlists to AI generation in January 2024 and added sentence-based music search

Problem

FLO has a catalog of more than 75 million tracks. Users needed a way to find music by mood or everyday description, and playlists had to be built for many moods.

Approach

Dreamus built its own AI language-model recommendation system. It uses a joint embedding that learns from audio and text together, so users can search with everyday sentences and get AI-generated playlists. A pilot began in late 2023, and all Moood playlists have been AI-generated since January 2024.

Results

75 million+tracks on FLO covered by the service, per the companyCompany's own claim[1]
700+playlists across 15 mood categories, per the companyCompany's own claim[1]

Takeaway

Dreamus reported scale but no user or revenue effect from the AI playlists.
