GDEV (Game Gears)
Generative AI tools across game development at the Game Gears studio
Game Gears' CEO says generative AI made development about four times faster on a mobile game
Problem
A small studio inside GDEV wanted to build a mobile game, Aliens vs Zombies: Invasion, with a small team and short production time. Art, code, design text and ad creatives all needed a lot of manual work.
Approach
The studio used off-the-shelf generative AI tools, including GPT, Cline with Claude, Midjourney, Flux, Kling and Rodin. The tools produced 2D and 3D assets, new code modules, game text, balancing and character abilities, and video ads. They were also used for accounting and document management. The studio's CEO described the work in an article for Game World Observer.

Takeaway
The speed-ups come from the studio's CEO and were not measured by anyone else. The largest claimed gains were in asset creation, where AI did most of the 3D modelling and people finished the rest.
