DWP estimated 19 minutes saved daily in its corporate-staff Copilot trial

WorkingCompany's own claimOfficial ↗

Problem

Corporate staff spent time searching internal information and preparing written communications. DWP wanted to assess whether an integrated AI assistant could shorten routine work.

Approach

DWP allocated 3,549 Microsoft 365 Copilot licenses during an October 2024 to March 2025 trial. Frontline operational staff were excluded. Evaluators compared user and non-user surveys through regression analysis and interviewed participants.

Results

19 minutesestimated average daily time saving from adjusted survey regression, per DWPCompany's own claim[1]

Takeaway

The estimate relied on self-reported task times, non-random license allocation and no pre-trial baseline. Statistical adjustments could not remove all selection bias.
